A 625 square foot cottage, built in 1906, was lifted two stories in the air to become the upper floor of this completely rebuilt modern home. The insertion of two floors below the existing cottage is reflected in the dynamic form of the angled bay and continues into the space defining paneled wall elements on the interior, which also conceal the service spaces within. A careful placement of spaces varies the site experience from floor to floor – from garden views, to neighborhood views, to panoramic city views at the top level. |
